Stav ‘Crazy Bear’ Economou Interview

Warriors Of MMA had a chat with Stav Economou about his training, his upcoming heavyweight title fight, and Neil ‘Goliath’ Grove. With a record of 10-1, a strong chin, great wrestling and BJJ, he’s is a true contender to Grove’s UCMMA heavyweight belt on the 8th of May.

Warriors Of MMA - Hi Stav, thanks for taking the time to talk to Warriors of MMA. Who and when are you fighting next?

Stav Economou - No problem, I’m fighting Neil ‘Goliath’ Grove at UCMMA:Never Back Down on the 8th of May for the UCMMA World Heavyweight Title.

Warriors Of MMA - How’s training? Are you concentrating with anything in particlar for your title fight?

Stav Economou - Training is going great! I’ve never trained this hard for a fight before and i can’t wait to get into the cage and entertain the crowd best i can. I haven’t really been concentrating on anything in particular with my training, just fine tuning everything and just making sure that on the day i will be in the best shape i can possibly be in

Warriors Of MMA - There’s been quite a bit in the media about MMA team mates not wanting to fight eachother, and you’ve trained with Grove before. Do you mind fighting friends or team mates and why?

Stav Economou - To be honest Neil & l haven’t trained together for 18 months so its not like we’re still team mates.
We’re are still friends and there is no bad blood between us but i’m not going to lie, it is going to be weird fighting a friend but at the same time we are professionals and we both understand that this is best for our respective careers and the sport.

We always said that if we did have to one day fight each other that we would go out, have the best fight that we can and have a drink after and thats what we’ll do.

Warriors Of MMA - For people who haven’t seen you fight, what style fighter would you say you are and what tools will you bring to the table to get that belt?

Stav Economou - for people who haven’t seen me fight before i would say don’t let my body shape fool you, im a well rounded mma fighter with good cardio, which i’ve proven before and i’m looking to my cardio to get me the win.

Warriors Of MMA - For anyone wanting to become a mixed martial artist, what advice would you give them starting up?

Stav Economou - DON’T RUSH! Too many times people train mma for 3 months and they want just jump into the cage for a Pro mma fight. I can’t stress enough to people how important it is to take your time with your training and start with grappling tournaments or amatuer/semi pro fights.

Warriors Of MMA - Thanks. Are there any team mates and sponsors you’d like to shout out to?

Stav Economou - I’d just like to thank Dan & Alex Burzotta as well as everyone down at Team Sure Grip for helping me with my training and also Excel Health & Performance for my strength & conditioning
