Danilo Gallinari's 2022 season ended before starting.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the veteran striker tore the ACL in his left knee. It's the same injury he suffered in 2013 that left him out of the game for the entire season.
He injured his knee during a FIBA qualifying match for the Italian national team on 27 August. He was initially diagnosed with a meniscus tear after the non-contact injury, but the second opinion clearly revealed more damage. Gallinari signed a $ 13.3 million two-year deal with the Celtics this off-season after being traded and ultimately given up by the San Antonio Spurs. He has spent the previous two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 12.4 points per game in 24.7 minutes per game. The 13-year veteran averaged 15.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists per game. Gallinari also shoots 38.2 percent from behind the arc.
A hard blow for the Celtics, who thought they would rely on Gallinari's production from the bench. It would also have marked the first time Gallinari had chosen the team he played for, after moving from the New York Knicks to the Denver Nuggets to the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Hawks and finally to the Spurs since the start of his career in 2008 had changed.
The Celtics need to somehow replace Gallinari and a report suggests Boston may be interested in Carmelo Anthony.
