Lightning's 2019 season finisher misfortune to Blue Jackets 'made a beast,' ex-NHL mentor says

The Columbus Blue Jackets set up a memorable surprise of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2019 end of the season games

Previous NHL mentor John Tortorella is assuming some praise for the Tampa Bay Lightning's new stretch of outcome in the Stanley Cup end of the season games.

The Lightning entered Game 5 of the Eastern Conference last against the New York Rangers in the wake of being down 2-0 in the series and tying things up with the Rangers Tuesday.

The Lightning have come out on top for two straight Stanley Cup titles and are searching for a third.

In 2019, Tortorella was the mentor of the Columbus Blue Jackets when they upset Tampa Bay with a staggering range in the end of the season games. Tampa Bay had wrapped up with an establishment record 128 focuses that season.

Tampa Bay sought retribution on the Blue Jackets the next year.

"We made a beast," Tortorella told The Athletic.

From that point forward, Tampa Bay has won 10 sequential season finisher series.

"I don't think it was X's and O's. I think it was a mentality. That (2019) Lightning group was all-world when they came into the end of the season games, and I don't think they regarded us," Tortorella reviewed.

"Now and again you must eat it, and when you eat it, you could in any case be obstinate and not have any desire to transform anything. They ate it and acknowledged they needed to change and play somewhat better. They changed some faculty. A genuine credit to their association was able to swallow a smidgen and say, 'You know, we must change.'"

Tortorella said the distinction between the 2019 season finisher group and the current year's group is attitude.
